Grief & Loss Counseling in Birmingham, AL
Grief is a natural response to love and loss. It isn’t something to “get over,” and there is no timetable. Alexander & Associates Counseling Services takes a holistic approach to grief—body, mind, relationships, community, and, if you wish, spirituality. We help regular people going through difficult times: the death of a loved one, pregnancy loss, divorce or separation, lost health, loss of job or independence, changing roles, and other major transitions.
What grief can feel like

Waves of sadness, numbness, anger, guilt, or fear; changes in sleep and appetite; difficulty concentrating; or feeling disconnected from others. All of this can be part of grieving. When distress remains very intense for a long time—or when traumatic memories dominate—focused support helps.
How we help
Your counselor provides a steady, compassionate space to tell your story and honor your bond, teaches nervous-system calming skills, and helps you find meaning and connection. When traumatic elements are present, we may consult internally to integrate EMDR options while proceeding gently.
