EMDR & Trauma Therapy in Birmingham, AL
Alexander & Associates Counseling Services takes a holistic approach when it comes to helping our clients. We are always thinking about the whole person and their circumstances and mobilizing all resources that could be of assistance and support. We help regular people going through difficult times. If you’ve experienced a traumatic event—or a series of difficult experiences—you are not “too much,” and you don’t have to carry it alone. Trauma affects body, mind, relationships, work, and spirituality; our job is to create a steady, skillful path forward.
What EMDR is—and how it helps
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a structured, evidence-based therapy that helps your brain reprocess stuck memories, so they feel less intrusive. With bilateral stimulation (eye movements or gentle tapping) and careful preparation, EMDR reduces the intensity of distressing images, beliefs, and sensations. Many clients notice fewer nightmares, less reactivity, and more room to live the life they want.
