It’s important to know the distinctions between psychiatrists, psychologists, and counselors to ensure you receive the appropriate care. - Psychiatrist: A psychiatrist is a medical doctor (MD or DO) who specializes in diagnosing, treating, and preventing mental health disorders. They are qualified to prescribe medication, offer psychotherapy, and manage complex psychiatric conditions. While Alexander Counseling does not employ psychiatrists in-house, we collaborate with them for medication management and complex psychiatric evaluations when necessary. - Psychologist: A psychologist holds a doctoral degree (PhD or PsyD) in psychology. They are trained in assessing, diagnosing, and treating mental health issues primarily through therapy and behavioral interventions. We do not employ Psychologists at Alexander Counseling at this time. - Counselor: A counselor typically holds a master’s degree in counseling or a related field and focuses on providing therapeutic support to clients dealing with a variety of issues including stress, anxiety, depression, and life transitions. At Alexander Counseling, our counselors offer empathetic, client-centered therapy aimed at helping individuals, couples, and families navigate life's challenges and improve their overall well-being. Alexander Counseling is committed to offering comprehensive support through our team of skilled counselors, with referrals to psychiatrists and psychologists as needed to ensure you receive holistic and personalized care.

No, we do not prescribe any medication. If medication is needed and wanted we can refer you to a healthcare provider to evaluate for medication.
